Major Reynolds entered the United States Air Force (USAF) as an enlisted airman in May 1962. Upon graduation from entry training he was selected to attend a United States Navy physical therapy technician school at the National Medical Center in  Bethesda, Maryland. Upon gradualtion from the nine month school, he was assigned to the hospital at James Connally Air Force Base , Waco, Texas. While there he was selected for the Airman Education and Commissioning Program to attend Arizona State University. He received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and then entered USAF Officer Training School where he was designated as an Outstanding Graduate and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant (Lt) November 1966. He was selected to return to Arrizona State University to comlete a master's degree in Industrial engineering. He graduated with that degree and was assigned to Andrews AFB, Maryland in the USAF Management Engineering Program.

While at Andrews Air Force Base, Reynolds was promoted to 1st Lt and later to Captain. He also was selected for Regular Officer designation. His various assignments since Andrews AFB included: Griffis AFB, Rome New York; Oklahoma State University, Sillwater, Oklahoma, as an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies; CCK Air Base, Taiwan; Pentagon, Washington DC; and Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Florida where he served as commander of Detachment 24 under the command of the Director Manpower and Organization at Tactical Air Command, Lanagely AFB, Hampton, Virginia. This was Major Reynolds last duty assignment.  He retired August, 1982.
